And yet another DRM post.
This time, its about Spore. The game is published by EA and, as with all current EA games, it comes with SecuRom DRM. And as per usual, gamers are up in arms.
What is interesting about the current situation is that gamers have gone onto Amazon and have panned the game in reviews there. Currently, there are over 2,000 negative reviews on Amazon and a recurring theme is the complaints about DRM. From a consumer point of view, it is very much looking like the tolerance for any kind of DRM is dropping.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - Stardock is full of smart people.

Another game that I'll be steering well clear of then - not too bothered as there's plenty of good stuff to play instead.
BTW: talking about Stardock, have you checked out their game "Sins of a Solar Empire"? Just bought it, but haven't loaded it yet (still can't get away from FM08 :))
As you mentioned, love Stardocks attitude, and when they bring out a great game like "Sins", then I'm more than happy to support them with some business.
Lastly - seen the trailers for FM '09? Think its time I upgraded my machine! :)
I played the demo of Sins - really good game. I love the fact that the game, as an RTS, is very much NOT about the tank rush. It was able to capture the strategy element which seems to be missing in most RTS games.
In the end, I didn't buy it cos I'm not a huge fan of RTS games anymore. More importantly, I'm still playing FM06, BG trilogy and a little bit of Disciples II (via Gametap) - all of which are timesink games. Throw in X360 games and all the learning time on video editing and you can see that there really isn't much spare time left over!
On a side note, StarDock are the publisher and not the developer. Having said that, I think they had a bigger role in the development than you normally see from publishers.
Re FM09. My first feeling was - Awesome! Then I started to have doubts. Much as I love sigames, I have to admit that I am not filled with confidence at the prospect of buying the first iteration of their 3d engine. Which means I'll probably wait for FM'10.
